Mantra of the Month: Om Jai Jagdish Hare

OM JAI JAGDISH HARE
Known as the Universal aarti or ritual song, Om Jai Jagdish Hare is sung often at Diwali celebrations. Different versions exist, but here is the one my family and I sing every year at our puja, or prayer, celebration.

Often begins with the Gayatri Mantra

Om bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ
Oh God! You are the giver of life, remover of pain and sorrow, the bestower of happiness

Tát savitúr váreṇyam bhárgo devásya dhīmahi
Oh! Creator of the Universe, may we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light

Dhíyo yó naḥ pracodáyāt
May you guide our intellect in the right direction.

Om Jai Jagdish Hare

Om jaya Jagadiśa hare
Swāmi jaya Jagadiśa hare
Bhakta jano ke sankata
Dāsa jano ke sankata
